CURRENT PROJECT  - A HISTORY OF CLONTUSKERT

Clontuskert Local History Group is a group of sixteen people are involved in the preparation and publication of a history of Clontuskert parish. Research work began in March 2005 and has been progressing steadily ever since.

Much of the work involves the collection of information through interviewing people, sifting through documents in a variety of archives, poring over old maps and reading newspapers dating back to the late 1700s.

If you are in a position to add to the store of information on the parish, it will be deeply appreciated, especially information under any of the following headings:

  • Old photographs of weddings, sports events, school groups, ancestors, houses, farm buildings
  • Letters written many years ago referring to events in the parish
  • Old invoices, bills, account books from businesses
  • Newspaper cuttings
  • Unusual objects, artefacts, interesting ruins, places or sites with unusual stories relating to them
  • Memories handed down from parents, grandparents or neighbours
  • Family histories and family trees
  • Information on place names, field names, road names and the possible origin of these names.

Items, such as photographs and documents will be copied with the permission of the owners and returned immediately. If you are in possession of relevant information, kindly contact info@clontuskert.com

Progress reports on our publication will be posted on the Clontuskert website, www.clontuskert.com
